NUS Business’ new Centre on AI Technology for Humankind
A new centre and the global AI agenda: Asia-Pacific
NUS Business School was founded in the same year that Singapore gained independence and has been going for more than 50 years. Its main focus is on business education to outstanding students. In an article written on the 28th of April 2020 on the NUS general news there was an announcement of a new Centre on AI Technology for Humankind.
On a large scale they will ask big questions about how the technology will influence society. The areas mentioned to be included are areas of:
- Leadership.
- Authority.
- Augmentation of human capital.
- Trust and ethics.
According to the AiTH’s Founder and Director Professor David De Cremer, Provost’s Chair in the Department of Management and Organisation at NUS Business they are hoping to develop insight that will:
“…inform policymakers, the industry and the public on how AI technologies can be advanced while still maintaining a focus on humans,”
The projects will focus on business models, ethical deployment, and what the different relationship means for the future of work.
Due to the crisis there has to be a launch virtually on 23 April. In conjunction with the launch, the Asia’s AI Agenda report was released, a research project in collaboration with MIT Technology Review Insights with trends on AI adoption.
The report showed that the Asia-Pacific region was an early adopter of AI and continues to lead the pack.
“…96 per cent of Asian respondents deploying AI in 2019, higher than the 85 per cent average of respondents from the other regions.”
More than 1,000 senior executives were surveyed.
Sales and marketing has been the biggest area of growth (36 per cent in 2019 and 61 per cent projected in 2022).
It seems the continuation of activities and strategies related to artificial intelligence is starting up again from the desperate measures to tackle COVID-19. Perhaps we will see more strategic work emerge in the weeks ahead.
