AI for Better or Worse

The Question of Artificial Intelligence and Civilization

Since I am participating in a panel debate at the Cutting Edge Festival I have received a few questions that have been posted to accompany the announcement.

“Is artificial intelligence the best that has happened to our civilization, or the worst? What is happening right now, and how will it affect us?”

I have been called upon as one of the experts and foremost thinkers to answer this question together with a film director of a new documentary about artificial intelligence; a Dean in academia; a researcher on Neuroplasticity; and the head of the largest research Consortium in Norway for artificial intelligence. Intimidating to say the least, so I thought I would start considering the question before the event.

It was suggested too that I should have a weekly theme and gather all insight and articles at the end of the week into a longer more comprehensive article.

I cannot answer such great looming questions with a day or week. However I can begin to explore the questions before, during and after the event this week. I can keep it as a topic for one week.

I hope you will stick with me this week.

This is day 139 of #500daysofAI. I write one new article about or related to artificial intelligence every day for 500 days.
